Day 5: Carlsbad Caverns

I did not realize that it was more of a hollow hill kind of thing rather than hey, a hole, and then you just go down down down. After entering the park, you drive up the hill to the visitor center and cave entrance. Apparently at one point in its history there was a plan to dynamite through the cave wall to be able to bring in cars, I assume from the base of the hill.

Met two women in the elevator up who were there for a very interesting reason. They were part of a group of volunteers who remove the lint left behind by the visitors. Their group removed 30 pounds of it. I asked how they did that and she said special paint brushes. I said they were a credit to humanity.

A few pics. Too tired to do more. And I have an early day tomorrow: have to drive to Hobbs for the eclipse.
