Less than ten days to go

I’ve been working out my equipment settings and setups and practicing with the tracking motor. Wednesday was a clear night for a just-past-full moon and I worked out my exposure bracketing (7 stops and aperture priority) and the preferred remote (direct attachment, better than Bluetooth for battery life). I’m feeling solid in how I’m going to take pictures, which only leaves the really big question: where.

Ten days is the farthest out I can get weather forecasts and yikes.

At the moment, I have a major city on the eclipse path in every state saved in one of my many weather apps, and there are no good forecasts. None. Not San Antonio TX nor Buffalo NY (Buffalo is a lot better than TX right now though). So still no idea where I will be on the 8th. The only upside is that I’ve done this before and I know that a ten day forecast is just a vague suggestion, and it has to be clear somewhere. The next couple of days will be plotting routes to 4-5 possibilities and packing and unpacking everything about eight times. And reminding myself that I don’t have to make a decision until Friday morning.

The moon from Wednesday and three sun shots, all with different sunspots.
